As per Article 365 of the UAE Penal Code, it used to be prohibited for men and women to live together or get involved in consensual sex before they get married in Dubai. Requirements to get married in Dubai?

  • In Dubai, at least one of the parties needs to have a UAE residence visa.
  • The bride’s father or their marriage lawyer in Dubai needs to be present in person for the marriage.
  • Two male Muslims must be there as witnesses.
  • For expatriates, passports and their photocopies and ID proof of witness are needed.
  • If the bride is Muslim and her father is not, she needs a ‘No Objection’ letter from her respective embassy or consulate.
  • In the case of divorce or death of the spouse, status proof needs to be presented.
