Basic prerequisites for a successfully expat marriage

Before couples take the plunge to get married in Dubai and other emirates; it is important that they meet these guidelines of getting married here.

  • The bride’s approval
  • To get married in Dubai, at least one party to the marriage contract (husband, wife, or wife’s guardian) must have a residency visa in the UAE
  • Both the bride and groom must be UAE residents in other emirates.
  • A satisfactory pre-marital screening certificate is issued by the concerned public healthcare institutes in the UAE for the couple.

  • Original and copies of the groom’s and bride’s passports;
  • Birth certificate; original
  • copies of Emirates ID;
  • Certificates of pre-marriage medical tests;
  • A certificate of marital status specifies whether the certificate holder is unmarried, divorced, or widowed. An authenticated certificate of marital status must be Arabized or translated into Arabic. If the person has never been married, he or she can fill out an affidavit and have it notarized by the embassy.
